FSC – PEFC Pigna protects forests and the environment
As envisaged by its company mission statement, Pigna has obtained FSC and PEFC certification in 2009 for the paper products contained in the “Pigna Moda 2010” catalogue, and for other products in the current “Pigna 2010” catalogue.
Certification by the Forest Stewardship Council and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes ensures that wood and paper come from forests managed according to environmentally, socially and economically sustainable criteria.
FSC and PEFC are non-governmental organizations, which oversee the Chain of Custody and ensure careful forest management throughout the world.
ISO 14001 and ISO 9001:2000
Pigna has a Quality and Environmental Management System for all its sites certified according to the international standard ISO 9001:2000.
This standard confirms the application of international organizational standards to improve company performance.
In addition to paper and paper-based products, Pigna has also obtained ISO 14001 certification, an environmental certificate that demonstrates the positive will progressively to control and reduce the impact of our activity on the environment.
The Quality and Environmental Management System adopted by Pigna enables the transformation of environmental problems from economic costs into positive opportunities for growth, improving and optimizing the entire production cycle.
These certifications represent both a target as well as a starting-point for developing an ever-greater environmental knowledge, via a more rational use of energy and renewable sources, reduced water wastage, correct collection and treatment of refuse and, naturally, ongoing training and awareness-raising of all staff.
There are a number of consequences arising from this environmentally-friendly effort and this knowledge of qualitative methods: an increase in the recycling of industrial water; improved waste management; reduction in the amount of solid waste; an increase in recycled paper in proportion to primary materials; a reduction in noise emissions from production sites; the containment of potential sources of soil contamination; and finally the formulation of a feasibility plan for reducing emissions into the atmosphere.
“Ricarta” is the brand name for Pigna’s 100% recycled paper, coming from selected pulp. “Ricarta” respects the environment in that its production does not involve cutting down trees, and every 400kg of recycled paper saves cutting down one tree. Recycled paper is not only used to produce the covers and inside pages in the “Pigna Nature Green” and “Pigna Nature Flowers” ranges, but also to produce eco-friendly envelopes and photocopying paper.
Fire Prevention Certificate
Pigna has received a Fire Prevention Certificate from the Fire Brigade’s Regional Headquarters. This certificate covers all company activity as required by law.
